Being someone who is scared of my own shadow, any room with the word Hell in it never sounds like a good idea, but after reading a few reviews online and a constant pleading by my friend I caved in and agreed to give it a go. The story line seemed original and well thought out, with characters having links to other rooms in the clue HQ franchise. When the lights came on and the clock started counting down the design of the room was fairly impressive. For a small room, the combination of technology and smart design features meant the room didn’t just feel ever-changing but far larger than it actually was. A few crucial clues were somewhat weak in design but nothing that couldn’t be fully understood with a bit of forward thinking. However the excellence to the majority of the rest of the puzzles meant for a great array of variety and excellence in the room whist keeping a great level of difficulty from start to finish.
We managed to escape with 8 minutes to spare, which seemed like a strong time for a group of two to escape with. The host was great afterwards and provided a great debriefing, running over the few post game questions we had. Due to the size of the room I wouldn’t recommend more the four players as I could imagine there would lead to some people having nothing to do due to the linearity of it. As an experienced group of two we found that the room was difficult but easily doable, but for first time duos this may provide a challenge. Overall though, I found it to be a great room with a strong design and good puzzles, but just had a few parts that needed to be edited to make the gameplay more seamless.
